By definition, CrossFit is a principal strength and conditioning program for elite police forces, military special operations teams, champion martial artists, and Olympic athletes worldwide. As impressive and praiseworthy as it sounds, the reality that CrossFit is applicable to the lives of each and every individual is CrossFit’s greater strength and most impressive attribute. Does CrossFit cater to the collegiate, conditioned athlete? Yes. Does it appeal to the fastest and the strongest athletes in their fields? Absolutely. But, does it completely transform and transcend the body, mind, spirit and heart of a stay-at-home mom or dad? Resoundingly. Does it build self-esteem, character, determination and drive in a struggling or even a successful teenager? Without question. CrossFit enables the elderly; those that once were active or whom may never have been active. It provides them with the basic physical skills to reclaim or maintain their independence, their dignity, their self-worth. CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program; and in its quest to bring excellence to the fitness of every person, whatever level they may currently be, CrossFit is continually committed to the safety, the wellbeing, and the support of their athletes – no matter their age, size, weight, religion, occupation, gender or race.
CrossFit is unique in that it specializes in not specializing. What does that mean? CrossFit acutely recognizes the physical fitness needs of human beings are the same, regardless of circumstance; the only variance is the load and intensity. That is primarily why retirees workout alongside professionally-trained Olympic lifters, and schoolteachers can conquer the same grueling workout-of-the-day as a marathoner. CrossFit’s core principles and the basis of all programming and workouts revolve around ten fitness domains – all ten of which, no matter who you are or what you do, when used often and applied with constant variety, will unilaterally increase the physical fitness of everyone. The ten physical domains are (courtesy of Dynamex):
When all ten of these physical domains are taxed regularly and continually optimized, the competency of an individual to perform any and all physical tasks is increased; everything from picking a child up off the floor, to carrying in groceries, to hauling and pushing heavy loads, to walking with ease up multiple flights of stairs.
In summary, CrossFit is for everyone. It is based upon the sole concept that functional movement, meaning the motor recruitment patterns found in our everyday lives, is the root, the very core of CrossFit. Squatting, otherwise known as standing from a seated position, and deadlifting, also known as picking something up off the ground, are movements that are crucial to the basic and intricate health and fitness of every human being. Deadlifts, squats, pushups, pull-ups, rowing, running, jumping, pulling – all functional movements in their own respect, and all part of the all-encompassing vision and CrossFit creed.
Letrono, the Greek word for Redemption, is the motto of our gym, our trainers, and our athletes. We see our fitness, and in essence CrossFit itself, as our Redemption; whether it be redemption from our pasts, from our failures, from our shortcomings, from our enemies, from our friends, or even from our own self and soul. We, as the founders, owners and coaches at Letrono have a unified purpose, and that is to act as a constant, steady guide to our athletes as they pave the way towards their own personal redemption as it applies to their fitness. Our coaches are top-notch, having decades of combined experience and expertise, training and tenacity. We love those whom we coach and teach, and in the end, it is us that learn far more from them than they may ever possibly learn from us. That is what Letrono, or “Redemption”, is all about.
Our programming is leading-edge, always evolving and never stagnant or mediocre. Great care and planning, including meticulous attention to the individual and general needs and goals of our athletes, goes into judicially and prudently guiding and gauging the workouts we provide, each and every day. We as coaches are committed first and foremost to the safety of our athletes. We believe that the programming never changes; only the load and intensity are scaled to accommodate the needs and various situations of our athletes.
Not only to we strive and demand excellence of ourselves for our adult athletes, but we have made it our mission, a literal movement of sort, to bring fitness, athleticism and general, lasting health to our children, so they can develop, from a young age, a strong foundation of fitness and health that will carry over into their adulthood, to their friends, and eventually to their own families. Our very own Sara Huntsman has single-handedly championed the cause of kids and fitness and intends to never give up imparting her love of fitness to the future athletes and examples of health of the world, the kids.
We also specialize in providing additional endurance-specific training to those athletes that pursue distance or endurance sports, ranging from a 5k to an Ironman, 100-mile bike races to open-water swimming. We have coaches that hold endurance-specific certifications, with years of personal experience as well as coaching experience to help you achieve any and all endurance-related goals you may have.
Letrono is proud of the fact that we not only focus on mobility, but mobility is integral in our daily workout-of-the-day (WOD) programming. What is mobility and why is it necessary? Well, according to the ten physical fitness domains, flexibility (also known as mobility) is not only on the list, but in the top four. Despite the fact that flexibility is one of the focal points of CrossFit, it continues to be a weakness in most athletes’ training regimens. According to the top ten fitness domains, flexibility is of equal importance as more attractive and engaging attributes such as strength and stamina. The truth is this: lacking flexibility in critical areas is absolutely crushing to the athletic ability of any individual, whether professional or amateur. Mobility vastly improves strength and speed, as well as all the other aspects of fitness. At Letrono CrossFit, we are grateful to have one of our coaches, Heath_________, who holds a CrossFit Mobility Certification, which is highly specialized and relatively uncommon. Our athletes are constantly under mobility’s constant watchful eye; and they are seeing outstanding progress in their lifts, their functional movement, and their strength and speed because of it.
You may wonder, would I fit in at Letrono? Not only would you fit in, you would be warmly and genuinely welcomed by our strong and supportive community, our friendly and dedicated coaches; the people that are the literal heart of this, our Redemption. Who is Letrono? We are mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters; we are soldiers – active duty, currently deployed and honorable veterans, firefighters, police officers and paramedics; we are doctors, nurses, school teachers, salesmen and saleswomen; we are businessmen and women, contractors, construction workers and business owners; we are stay-at-home mothers, soccer coaches, students and volunteers; we are teenagers, high school students, the middle-aged, retirees and grandparents. But most of all, we are freedom-loving, God-acknowledging, lovers of peace, of unity, of our military and proud patriots of the United States of America. We are on the path, the path to Redemption, and we choose to walk that path together, each and every day, through blood, sweat and tears, as we prepare for glory, never let anyone finish alone, and continually encourage and champion the unconquerable, unbreakable human spirit.
